The money was half gone. She said it aloud to the empty office, the way you say a dangerous word to rob it of power.
Two lakh six thousand. Sixty days.
Revenue had arrived, a little: Padma's first month, eleven new paying kitchens from a post she had written in a food-waste forum, a tiffin association in Pune that had heard of her through Sunanda. The monthly total was nineteen thousand rupees, a fraction of her costs. But it was growing. She had drawn the line on a graph at midnight, and the line went up.
What she could not do was draw the second line, the one for cash, without looking at where the two crossed.
She printed both graphs on a single page and taped it beside the sticky note. The lines approached each other like two trains on a long curve. One would reach the other in about eleven weeks, on any sensible forecast.
Eleven weeks was more than sixty days. But not by much.
