Padma wanted to buy a share of the company.
She said so across a video call, in her usual blunt way. "I will put in ten lakh rupees for a tenth," Padma said. "No board, no nonsense. I only want you to finish the product."
Meera looked at the screen. It was a rescue. It was ten lakh rupees, enough for most of a year, an offer from the person who had believed first.
"Why?" she asked.
"Because you apologised to a hundred and eighty kitchens when your server fell over," Padma said. "I have seen very few people do that. I trust people who can be wrong in public."
She wanted to say yes. Her whole body wanted to say yes.
She thought of Aravind: Don't raise money to prove you are serious. She thought of the graphs, running in parallel. She thought of her father in the hospital bed, make it a good failure.
"May I think about it for a week?" she said.
"Of course." Padma smiled. "A person who thinks about it is a person I want to invest in."
