Kabir returned on Saturday, out of the glass office, in a crumpled shirt, with a box of laddoos.
He stood in the doorway of the small room with the stained ceiling and looked at it as if returning to a house he had grown up in. "It smells the same," he said.
"Damp and tea."
"Exactly." He put the laddoos on the desk. "I read your note about the equity. I did not expect it."
"You built the engine."

"You came back." She pushed the box toward him. "Both of those are true. I am not rewriting either."

"No."
"I would like to work two days a week," Kabir said, "and be bored the other five."
They did the paperwork on the hood of a borrowed scooter, laughing, using a pen from a bank.
